Professor Ifeoma Okoye, popularly known as ‘Pinky Prof’, is a medical doctor with over 35 years of experience. Her incredible passion for cancer prevention and early diagnosis led her to establish the Breast Without Spot in 2008. The organization has mobilized thousands of young advocates in Nigeria who volunteer to create awareness on how to prevent or detect breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer in hundreds of communities across Nigeria. She initiated the commemoration of October 5 every year as Nationwide Go Pink Day to create awareness on prevention of breast cancer. Her works earned her recognition as an Ashoka Fellow – being one of the global most powerful change makers and social entrepreneurs.
Apart from her inspiring roles in cancer advocacy, the Pinky Prof is an accomplished health professional and has been playing multiple leadership roles in various professional organizations and agencies. Ifeoma is a Professor of Radiology at the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Consultant Radiologist at the, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu (UNTH) in Enugu State. She is also the Chairperson, Association for Good Clinical Practice in Nigeria (AGCPN) and Clinical Trial Africa Vision 2020 Initiative/ Clinical Trial Consortium, Secretary Partnership for Eradication of Cancer in Africa and Co-Director Bone Marrow Donor’s Registry, Nigeria (BMRN).
At the international level, Ifeoma was a Past Observer to The Board of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), African Coordinator of CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative of Univ. of Miami), Consultant to NAFDAC on Clinical Trials & 1st Chairman Nigerian Clinical Trials Technical Working Group and the Convener of the 1st All Africa Clinical Trial Summit.
More so, she is a Marie-Stopes Certified Cryotherapists for Treatment of Pre-Malignant Cervical Cancer Lesions, a Trustee and one of the founders of a Female Fellowship: Blossoms of The Vine, Member of the National Health Research Committee of the National Health Act 2014 and also a Member National Cancer Control Steering Committee.
Ifeoma has authored 7 books and has over 80 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals to her credit. She is currently an Examiner at Nigerian Post Graduate School & Editor of the West African Journal of Radiology.
